Nehemiah is rebuilding Jerusalem's broken wall. His enemies try every trick to stop the work. Then Shemaiah secretly calls him aside, urging him to flee into the temple to save his life — saying it is the word of God.

Unfamiliar words in this case
- prophet — one who received God's word and spoke it plainly to king and people. Not a fortune-teller, but one who names right and wrong without fear. Also called a seer.
- temple — the holy house of worship. Its inner sanctuary could be entered only by priests, so for a layman like Nehemiah to hide there was to break the law. That is why 'flee into the temple' would have made him both a coward and a lawbreaker.
